Today's Tornado Risk and Friday's Major Tornado Risk

Note: A more current forecast is available, please scroll up.

This Afternoon and Tonight
The brown areas are where there is a significant risk of tornadoes this afternoon and tonight.
Brown = significant risk. It includes Wichita Falls, Muskogee, Ft. Smith, Fayetteville and Bull Shoals Lake.

Major Tornado Risk Friday and Friday Night
Usually, I don't flag tornado risks the day before unless they are major. Unfortunately, it looks like that may be the case for tomorrow and tomorrow night. The outlook below is valid from 7am Friday to 7am Saturday, but the greater risk for tornadoes is after 5pm CDT.
Color codes:
Red + hatched = high risk of strong tornadoes.
Yellow + hatched = enhanced risk of strong tornadoes.
Brown = significant risk of tornadoes

How to Prepare:
  • Prepare to care for infirm friends and relatives now. Don't wait until the storms are approaching.
  • There is a significant risk of power failures. It won't hurt to get a few extra bucks at the ATM.
  • Large hail is likely. Put your car in the garage along with any lawn furniture or other items that may be damaged.
  • Fill your car with fuel.
