More From the Never Ending List of Flock Abuses - Updated

Image
Since this blog was created in November, 2009, it has stated that, "we are passionate about liberty." Day by day, we are watching our liberties being taken away from us.  Here's yet Flock + police abuse published yesterday: Second example from yesterday: Do you think you or I would get away with this because we "didn't intend" to violate the law?  In my world, police should be held to a higher standard. But most of today's police don't even understand the very basics of constitutional rights and don't care.  Update: Flock won't let you cancel when your contract is up! In my opinion, this whole thing is evil. It needs to be stopped!

Los Angeles Tornado Risk This Winter

Image
Damage from 1983 Los Angeles Tornado During El Ninos, California's "Southland" (coastal counties from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles to San Diego up to the mountain foothills) has a significantly enhanced risk of tornadoes during the rainy season.  The worst tornado in Los Angeles' history occurred during the strong 1982-83 El Nino. It was an EF-2 that injured at least 30 people. There are reports that it killed six but there were no direct fatalities.  If you live in the Southland, I urge  you to check with your insurance company to make sure you have coverage for a tornado. Since this is forecast to be a record El Nino, who knows that the tornado situation may turn out to be? This includes people living in apartments as you need coverage for your contents.

Even More Horror Stories Because of Flock and Lazy Policing

Image
The NBC News story is here .  Below is a photo from a police body camera of an innocent man pulled over at gunpoint in Florida. This image shows  Jason Frederico  during a wrongful traffic stop by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in Florida .  Deputies drew their weapons, ordered Frederico and his 16-year-old epileptic daughter out of the vehicle, and placed them in handcuffs before realizing the mistake.   Some innocent person will be killed before all of this has played out.

Sunday Thought: For Everyone

Image
It is unbelievable to me that with roughly 100 million  people murdered by Communists during the 20th Century that anyone believes we should visit this horror on the United States.  For Catholics,  No one with any sense should want this inhumane, godless, and crippling form of government.

Rachel Approaches Southern California

Image
Tropical Storm Rachel is centered at the "R" and is moving north northeast rapidly. Below is the latest flash flood risk map.

8:05am Update on Tropical Storm Rachel

Image
There is slightly good news this morning. The center is now forecast by NHC to move southeast of San Diego County. Winds will be less than forecast yesterday. Winds may gust to 50 mph in the desert but gusts of only ~40 mph are now expected in San Diego.  Below is the forecast risk of flash flooding.

Yet Another Wrong/Illegal Stop With Guns Drawn!!

Image
Please watch this short video . It is yet another stop of a young woman with epilepsy with police guns drawn -- due to an incorrect license plate. The young woman had done nothing wrong .  In addition to being a violation of our rights, with their 71% record of getting license plates wrong,  someone will be killed. This is not to mention the innocent man (also in Florida) who was wrongly jailed for 30 days!

7pm CDT Hurricane Isaias Update

Image
7pm Update:   Across the region, about 800,000 people are without power. Some will not get it back for a few days. Pensacola's Airport has winds gusts to 86 mph and they are on the edge of the strongest winds. This is the last update on this storm for the evening as it is making landfall and there is no more weather forecasting to do.  5:55p Extreme Wind Warning (100+ gusts) circled. Drawn line through supercells that may produce tornadoes. 5:45pm. Power lines are shorting in coastal Florida.  In Florida and nearby surrounding areas, about 450,000 people  are already without power.  4:30pm. Doppler radar now shows damaging winds moving inland along the coast from Navarre to Laguna Beach. Wind gusts above 80 mph are possible right along the coast. Wind speeds will increase the rest of the evening. I urge you to get indoors and hunker down.  4p. To me, it looks like the strongest winds will come ashore between Pensacola and Panama City during the next few hou...

Tropical Storm Rachel, Updated 3pm PDT - San Diego and Nearby Southland Mountains

Image
Balboa Beach Flooding at High Tide  2pm Update: Tropical Storm Warning, Blue  Tropical Storm Watch (yellow) in San Diego Area The NHC is now forecasting Rachel to move farther northwest than in previous forecasts. The latest model guidance has strong tropical storm forecast winds (up to about 70 mph on the immediate coast) in San Diego County. Wider View: Note: No strong winds are forecast for Los Angeles. Flooding rains are possible in California and Arizona.  It would not surprise me if a tornado or two occurred in Southern California.  There will be high surf on the California coast, especially south-facing beaches.

3:10pm CDT Update on Hurricane Isaias - Perhaps Strengthening

Image
3:10pm CDT The chance for tornadoes east of Pensacola will rise rapidly from now until this evening. The tornado watch is plotted below.  12:45pm, Unfortunately, More Bad News Lightning has developed on the east side of the eye. Plus, a Hurricane Hunter just measured the barometric pressure and it is dropping. Both are signs the storm will remain at current intensity or even strengthen a bit before making landfall this evening. See below for the latest safety recommendations! 1235p Isaias has unexpectedly intensified to a Cat 3 hurricane! Radar at 11:56am. Watches and warnings in effect: W Color code: Red = hurricane warning Blue = tropical storm warning  Yellow = tropical storm watch Brown = hurricane-force winds Amber = tropical storm force winds   There is a tornado watch now in effect.  Key Messages: 1. A life-threatening storm surge is expected from the Mouth of the Mississippi River to Suwannee, Florida. Residents under evacuation orders should leave immedia...

Hurricane Isaias Update, 4:45pm CDT

Image
The map below shows: the path of the eye of the storm, white,   the hurricane warning area, red,  tropical storm warning and hurricane, striped, tropical storm warning, blue,  tropical storm watch, yellow The forecast for Isaias is essentially unchanged. It is expected to be Cat 1 at landfall.  Dangerous storm surge is the greatest threat from Isaias. There will also be flash flooding inland and, along and to the east of the eye, the potential for tornadoes.

8:35am MST Update; Southeast California and Arizona Tropical Storm Threat

Image
This forecast is out-of-date. A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for San Diego County. See updated forecast here .  While the Gulf Coast is rightly concerned about Isaias, there is reason to be concerned that the remains of Pacific Hurricane Rachel could be the most serious storm in southeast California and Arizona since 1976's Hurricane Kathleen.  Flooding Rains As much as five inches is forecast along the path of the storm with isolated higher amounts. It is entirely possible the forecast path may shift east or, especially, west on later forecasts. Given this is a desert, there is little doubt that these rains will cause significant flooding. Roads and railroads could be washed out.  Damaging Winds Again, this path of higher winds could shift east or west with time but with gusts to near 80 mph, considerable damage is possible, including loss of power.  When comparing to Hurricane Kathleen, please recall the population of the area is much higher now than it wa...

A Timely Article About the U.S. and Weather-Related Disasters

Image
Dr. Cliff Mass has written a timely and interesting article about the direction our nation should follow to better use storm warnings to mitigate the effects of major storms and other weather-related disasters. You will find it here .  Given the recent hurricanes in both the Gulf and Pacific, Cliff's paper is especially timely.

4pm Isaias Update

Image
Pressures are falling rapidly which will likely lead to rapid intensification. In the last six hours, the pressure has dropped from 1000 to 994 millibars. Its maximum sustained wind is already 65 mph, just 10 mph short of hurricane force. If Isaias reaches hurricane force, as it almost certainly will, it would be the first hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean Basin in 2026.  The storm is forecast to be a Cat 1 or weak Cat 2 in terms of wind speed when it makes landfall.  Storm Surge Forecast Seven feet is a major storm surge!  Please observe local information regarding evacuations.  Flash Flood Risk This is a flash flood forecast for the next five days. Please make plans to evacuate if you live in a low-lying or flood-prone area, especially if you reside in the red area. Tornadoes I believe there will be a major tornado threat with Isaias but it is too soon to make a specific forecast.

(Update, 12:15pm) Isaias Update: Hurricane Watch Issued

Image
12:15pm. Hurricane Hunter aircraft shows the pressure has dropped six millibars in 2 hours which will likely pave the way for rapid intensification.  -- original post, still valid --  A hurricane and storm surge watch is in effect for the pink are on the map. A tropical storm watch is in effect for the area in yellow. Peak winds are forecast to be 110 mph while it is over the Gulf and somewhat less strong when it makes landfall. A major storm surge is forecast. I will update this afternoon.

The BENEFITS of a Major El Nino

Image
Three of thousands of news graphics about the current El Nino. A record El Nino (an area of warmer than average seawater along the Equator from South America west into the Pacific) is developing. So far, the media -- over and over -- has hyped the effects of the oceanic current.  But an article in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society correctly points out there is another side to El Nino occurrences. It looked back on the giant 1997-98 El Nino and tallied up the pluses and minuses. For the United States, The Negative Costs $1.7 billion (not adjusted for inflation to 2026) in losses $400 million in federal government relief $125 million for state assistance $700 million agricultural losses $ 70  million losses in sales of snow removal equipment $190 million loss to the tourist industry  189 people killed The Economic Gains $6.7 billion, reduced heating costs $5.6 billion, increased sales of everything from houses and other goods $380 million, reduced snow re...
