Astrud Gilberto ,who took the world by storm with her 1964 recording of The Girl From Ipanema, has passed away at the age of 83. That recording sold more than 5 million copies which, at the time, was an astonishing number. It ushered in the bossa nova music era. There is more about her life and career, here.
Below is my favorite performance of the song. Her voice was smooth and had an almost magical quality. One other thought: consider the quality of the sound in this 1964 recording. Don't need all kinds of electronic gimmicks for a great vocalist.
The forecast path of the center of Hilary has shifted a bit to the west. This increases the threat to the Southland, especially in terms of flooding.
