Severe Thunderstorms Possible in California Today

The area in green (poor choice of colors) has a chance of severe thunderstorms. Those are defined as producing hail 1" or larger and/or wind gusts of 58 mph (50 knots) or stronger. These are not common in California.

If thunderstorms approach, we recommend you get indoors. If you have a garage, put your car inside to protect it from hail.

I'll provide any appropriate updates on Twitter @usweatherexpert.

UPDATE at 1:15pm PDT: The NWS is forecasting the potential for flash floods in the area outlined in purple.

UPDATE #2 at 1:30pm PDT. The risk of thunderstorms with wind gusts of 60 mph or more is greatest in the area outlined by the thick brown line.
