Colorado Power Outages Update, 6:06pm MDT

Here is the latest power outage map for Colorado. They are a little less than of third of what they were this morning (below). That said, I continue to believe it will be at least another 24 hours before power is restored to everyone.

This is a map of current power outages in Colorado. Using utilities' estimate, there are about 882,000 people (as opposed to "customers") without power. This is a result of the extreme winds that occurred overnight. Per the Denver Post, Xcel Energy shut off 55,000 customers proactively to prevent downed power lines from causing fires.

While this graphic is hard to make out, the peak winds were 96 and 95 mph at 3 locations. Given the forecast was "up to 100 mph," that was an excellent outlook.
