Major Storm Situation Forecast in the East
Today and Tonight

Tornado Risk
The yellow area has an enhanced risk of tornadoes. This includes Washington and Baltimore. The brown area has a signifiant risk of tornadoes.

Damaging Wind Threat
Here are is the color code:
  • Hatched purple = an extreme risk of wind damage and power outages.
  • Purple, a high risk of wind damage and power outages.
  • Red, an enhanced risk of wind damage and power outages.
  • Yellow, a significant risk of wind damage and power outages.
It is essential to monitor trusted local sources of weather information throughout the day and this evening.

For those not familiar, here are safety measures when a tornado or damaging wind warning (70 mph or greater) is issued:
  • Get to the lowest floor. If you have a basement, go there.
  • If you do not have a basement, get into a bath or closet in the middle of your home. The goal is to put as many walls between you and the storm as possible.
  • If you live in a high-rise apartment, please get to the lowest floor (basement is base) and then get into a stairwell or small room in the middle.
  • If you shelter, wear shoes, take a bottle of water and, if appropriate diaper(s).
  • Keep your laptop and smartphone charged but disconnect them the first time you hear thunder or see lightning. A power surge could damage them.
In addition, you'll want to fuel your EV now before the widespread power outages begin.  It would also be smart to fill up your conventional auto and to visit the ATM before the power outages begin.
