Hurricane Lee Update 5:45pm Thursday

Hurricane Lee continues to make its way north as of 5:31pm EDT.

The National Hurricane Center has extended tropical storm warnings along the U.S. coast while dropping the storm surge watch for Cape Cod and Nantucket.
Its current peak winds as 85 mph. When the center makes landfall Saturday afternoon, the peak sustained winds should be around 70 mph, especially along and east of the center. Note: unlike a hurricane striking Florida, the strongest winds will not be tightly concentrated around the eye. On the diagram, notice the east-west extent of the tropical storm force (40-74 mph; amber in color) and hurricane force (75+mph in brown). It may grow still further as the storm moves north.

Major wave and storm surge damage is likely in coastal Canada where you see the yellow tropical storm watch colors.
