Disregard What You Are Seeing on Twitter About the Tropics

You may have seen how Twitter has lit up this afternoon about a tropical wave west of Africa. To remind our many new readers: We do not get excited about tropical systems that,
  • Are at least nine days away. We start covering at five days out.
  • Have almost zero chance of affecting the United States.
This storm, which may well become a hurricane, is forecast by the best models to curve north in the middle of the Atlantic and not affect the USA.

Our goal is to provide the very best coverage of hurricanes that affect the USA, beginning about five days from landfall.
