    I have not had a chance to read much about the Joplin tornado yet--are you getting information as to why the death toll is so high? It appears that the sirens went off, but did they fail in some areas?

    No warning failures of any kind that I know of. It was a very large and extremely intense tornado, the type that if you are not underground or in a "safe room" you probably will not survive.

The tornado forecast is unchanged from yesterday. The brown area has a significant risk of tornadoes and the hatching indicates they could be strong.  During the next three days, more than five inches of rain is forecast to fall in Iowa (orange).  The result is a serious flood risk over Iowa and into northwest Missouri in the dark blue. In the pale blue, there is a lesser flood risk.
