Major Flash Flood in San Antonio

Wrap-up, 12:17pm. At least one person killed in the record flooding in San Antonio this morning. The San Antonio River shattered its record crest by more than two feet.

UPDATE: 9:45AM. Rain finally starts to taper off as storms move to the northeast. Flooding will worsen for another hour or two then slowly start to taper off on smaller streams this afternoon. Remember: Flood emergency for San Antonio. This will be the last update on this situation.

Salado Creek is just shy of a 17' stage but is rising rapidly. This is the description of what happens when it reaches seventeen feet:

DISASTROUS FLOODING EXTENDS FROM THE HEADWATERS TO THE SAN ANTONIO RIVER CONFLUENCE. FLOW REACHES THE NE LOOP 410 BRIDGE FLOOR. THE KOA CAMPGROUND 5 MILES DOWNSTREAM IS COMPLETELY INUNDATED WITH FLOW OVER 10 FEET DEEP OVER MUCH OF IT. LOWEST BUILDINGS IN THE LOS PATIOS SHOPPING CENTER ARE FLOODED AND ALL ARE THREATENED.


UPDATE: 9:06AM. San Antonio River has risen to 16 feet above flood stage and still rising as the rain continues to fall. This is major flooding.

Heavy rains continue to fall in San Antonio:

Official rainfall is more than seven inches with radar-indicated rainfall between eight and ten inches (arrow).
Drivers have been warned to "stay off roads" according to the San Antonio Express-News. This is a severe flooding situation. On a personal note: This includes Maggiano's delivery trucks.
