You Can't Get Out of the Way in Time

We often talk about risk mitigation on the blog. Being right up against the fence at a Grand Prix or NASCAR event is more dangerous than one would imagine from watching television accounts. Here is video of this weekend's crash. It makes clear you could never duck or otherwise get out of the way in time.

  1. The sheer physics of this kind of crash would make me extremely wary of getting that close. Those lightweight race cars are designed to mitigate the impact of a crash by fragmenting- they shed parts on purpose, to offset G loads. Not to mention, they are made of stuff that turns into shrapnel with very little effort!

Nope, no thanks. I'll watch it from the comfort of my couch, instead. (Actually, no, I won't- I'll be out deer hunting LOL)
