We've Lost Another Mercury Astronaut

Scott Carpenter, the second American to orbit the earth, has passed away. He was the only one of the original seven Mercury astronauts Kathleen and I have met. We spent a very pleasant evening with him at a reception for the Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson.

John Glenn is the only one of the original still living.

My favorite non-fiction book of all time is The Right Stuff. If you would like to learn about the early astronauts and space flight, I highly recommend it.
