NFL Clock Oddity

I've noticed in several NFL games this season that the interval of one second is, at times, not the same on the game and play clocks. A brief example is above. If the interval was the same (in this case), the play and game clock's numerals would change at the same time.

Not saying anything sinister is occurring, just noting that this is odd.

  1. Mike, the play clock sets to 40, but the game clock may be at some tenth of a second when it sets to 40 seconds. I think that's how it works anyway.

    1. That's true. But, the two should change at the exact same moment as they count down toward zero (play clock). There's no reason the game clock should change first at the beginning of the 40 seconds and then the play clock change first a few moments later.

Please look closely at the video I posted. Thanks for the comment.

    2. What's strange, at least when I replayed it a couple times, is that the first couple seconds appeared to change simultaneously. But the last couple seconds they weren't.

    3. [Mike Smith] That's exactly my point. They should stay in sync for the entire 40 -second countdown if they were in sync at the start.
