Here is an important message regarding the dangerous tornado risk over the Southeast through Sunday. Today The brown, 5%, area has a significant risk of a tornado between now and sunrise Saturday. Saturday The significant threshold is 15% on this map. The hatched area is where very large hail may occur along with an elevated risk of tornadoes. Sunday Again, the significant threshold here is 15%. There seems to be a good chance of damaging winds and tornadoes. Southern California Later today, there is a slight chance of a tornado or two in coastal Southern California.

On a personal note, I want to wish the incoming Administration wisdom and courage to be great leaders of America. As I write this, there is a tornado warning in Mississippi. A few severe thunderstorms are possible in the Southeast today and tomorrow. The big severe weather, with the potential for several tornadoes, is Saturday and Sunday.

Very happy to report that, as of Saturday's Palmer Drought Index, California's drought is over. The drought in the Southeast has shrunken considerably.

Real meteorologists make their own forecasts. It is dismaying when your children use someone else's forecast. I love his response.

In order to get an ice storm, you have to have a "warm air sandwich." If the air is below freezing from top to bottom, you get snow. You get ice only if you have exactly the right amount of warm air above the ground as illustrated above.
