Regarding the National Weather Service's Issues.....

Please take a careful look at this posting:
The story Ryan linked to is here. My point is the Houston staffing issues began and accelerated during the Biden Administration and those had nothing to do with President Trump.

As stated many times, the NWS has many deep issues. DOGE's hatchet (when a scalpel was needed) has worsened them.

The nation desperately needs a National Disaster Review Board modeled after the hugely successful National Transportation Safety Board to study disasters and provide impartial information to Congress, future Administrations, and the American people.

  1. I worked at the Houston office. Retirements have occurred because most of the older staff came up when the NWS brought the WFOs online in the 1990s. Only one person is left from the start of the WFO in Houston in the 1990s. As the older people have left over the past ten years, the experience level has dropped drastically.

I'm sure that some people, like me, in the NWS retired when it first became available because we could not move on to other office across the country. With aging parents and other family members, I would have rather been closer to my home area than a 2-day drive away in my final five or ten years of service. Since movement was almost impossible, retirement became a great option. Yes, I very much miss the job, but I enjoy being near family members more.
