The Danger of Flock and Flock-Type Cameras

Image
Why is everyone complaining about the Flock cameras?! Shoutout to the @Citizens_Idaho production team for helping me film this! 🥳 #satire #idaho #conservative pic.twitter.com/39fDoC8AnB — In the Know Idaho (@intheknowidaho) August 6, 2026 This is a brilliant satire that I hope you'll enjoy. BTW, the license plate readers are wrong  71% of the time and a number of false arrests have already been documented. More than arrests, it seems dozens of police have already been caught tracking ex-wives, lovers, etc., etc., illegally.  Last week, all eight Flock cameras in Winona, Minn. were cut down. Here's the response from the police department. The police are going to reinstall the spy cameras without a second thought. What the citizens may want (note the cameras are never put up for a vote) doesn't figure in. And, if Flock gets run out of business, there are two other companies that do the same thing.  These are violations of our 4th Amendment rights ("secure in the...

What Not to Do in a Tornado or Derecho

I was disappointed to see a member of the Iowa State Patrol violating a basic rule of weather safety during Monday's derecho: Never stop under a bridge in a tornado or high wind situation.   An underpass accelerates the wind and makes a bad situation even worse. People have been killed doing this. Midday Monday, we told people go get off the roads ahead of the derecho . Numerous tractor-trailers were blown over the in the storm. But, if you unexpectedly find yourself in a high wind situation, pull to the side of the road away from poles, signs or other items that could be blown into your car. If possible, park your car parallel to the direction of the wind. The above stated, take a look at the readout of his radar. It clocks a peak gust of 98 mph which seems reasonable based on the sound of the wind, the appearance of the wind-blown rain, and other wind speed reports in the area.

Dying Because You Fell Asleep in Your Car

Image
Friday evening, Rayshard Brooks fell asleep behind the wheel of his car while in the drive-thru line at a Wendy's in Atlanta. A half-hour later, he was shot dead by the Atlanta Police. My goal in this piece is to try to seek some understanding of this event. It is clear there bad behavior on both sides. When other customers had to drive around the stopped car with Mr. Floyd sleeping inside, the Wendy's staff called the police. The video above shows what happened after the police arrived (I have also watched most of a second video, link below, of this same tragic event). At Twitter, the opinions seem to have broken into two extremes: The shooting was justified; he resisted arrest and stole a taser. Racist police targeted and killed another black man.  What went so terribly wrong seems more subtle to me. It does not seem to he racial in nature.  The above video, the  second video of this tragedy, and a personal experience with Wichita police lead me to a ...

I Don't Know Why Her Statement Is Even Controversial

Image
Carly's tweet is getting quite a bit of pushback on Twitter, even though it is right on the money.  She is absolutely right. Think back to this incident. The white policeman, Sean Groubert, shot an unarmed black man, LeVar Jones, for exactly following his instructions. What is not visible is that the policeman later  committed perjury in his sworn statement.  He said that Jones charged him, so he shot. Obviously, that was not the case. Not even close. But, suppose, there was no dash cam? Mr. Jones, who was not only shot, likely would have at least been prosecuted. Even if cleared, he would have spent tens of thousands in attorney fees. Justice? As critical as I have been of epidemiology, medicine and politicians the last three months, they have not performed anywhere near as catastrophically as law enforcement. Law enforcement officials swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Let's see, were they acting in accordance with their oaths when the...
