Storm Prediction Center Tomorrow looks like another day of violent weather in the South. Please make sure -- now -- your family is prepared.

You hear them reference a "wedge" tornado. That is (to me) an odd name for a tornado that is wider than it is tall. Multiple tornadoes continue in progress. At 4:35, a tornado was near Louisville, MS. Additional updates will be posted on the blog this evening.

The red polygons are tornado warnings (click to enlarge) and the yellow polygons are severe thunderstorm warnings for large hail and damaging winds. Considerable damage has already been reported in Tupelo and around Yazoo City. If you are in the "high risk" scroll down area, please monitor the weather into tonight. Make sure your friends and relatives in the high risk area are aware of the high risk threat.

Most years only have one or two "high risk" days for tornadoes. Some don't have any at all. Yesterday, Arkansas had a high risk. For the second day in a row, parts of the South are now under a "high risk" of violent tornadoes. On a tornado outlook map like this, 5% is the significant threshold. Hatching is where violent  tornadoes are forecast to occur. Fifteen and 30% values are quite high. The values are defined as the probability of one or more tornadoes within 25 mi. of any given spot. If you have friends or family in these areas, please make sure they are aware of the threat and planning accordingly.

3pm Dual-polarization radar can detect lofted debris. I'm sorry to report that this is debris from Tupelo being carried northeast of the town by the tornado.
