Evidently, that is an Official Big Climate Talking Point™. No, we didn't. Humans don't/can't cause hurricanes! We wouldn't even know how. HAARP did not cause Melissa. This is quite an exchange.  Eric Holthaus is an extreme advocate of the catastrophic global warming hypothesis. Unfortunately, some of what is publishes is simply incorrect. For example, when he says, "This is now the most extensive severe drought in recorded history." No it isn't. The Dust Bowl years were worse by a large margin.  As to anyone "having the power" to prevent the drought -- absurd. We have no way to control the weather. There is a significant, and sometimes severe, drought in the west half of United States about every 20 years. The Dust Bowl drought wasn't the result of global warming nor is the drought we are currently experiencing.  When will the current drought in the West end? I don't know, nor does anyone else. It is likely to get at least somewhat worse before it gets better. If history is any guide, I'd say we have another one to two years, unfortunately. 

Condensation trails ("contrails") from jet engines are not some nefarious scheme to control the weather.  Contrails are just the exhaust from the combustion that occurs within the engine.  With the minor exception of cloud seeding in mountains, humans do not know how to control the weather. That is why the Governor of Utah requested prayers this weekend to end their drought . If something is in the provenance of God, petitioning Him makes a great deal of sense.  However, author Naomi Wolf got banned from Twitter a few days ago for "spreading  misinformation" -- a ban I do  not  support. Free speech is a bedrock American principle.  The cure for misinformation is more information. Had she not been banned, a meteorologist could have gently corrected her. Now, she will likely be upset and dig in her heels.  The same is true with Yale's announcement last week that it was going to disassociate with people spreading "misinformation" about climate. ...

Some comments from the Twitter feed.  Stabilizing the Climate This isn't the first tweet this week about "stabilizing our climate." I wonder if a press release pertaining to President Biden's infrastructure bill used that phrase. Stabilizing the climate = stabilizing the weather. Does anyone actually believe we know how to control the weather? Besides, below is a graph of planetary temperatures since 1900. Can you point to any time where the climate was stable? Even if we could control the weather, at what level is best for humanity?
