I was so sorry to read that Dolly has passed away at the age of 80. What an incredible person and what a great life she led! In my early television days (1971-75) at WKY-TV in Oklahoma City, we produced the weekly  Buck Owens Show . Dolly was an occasional guest (below). The Buck Owens regulars and guests would invade (and that was the correct word) Studio 1 every Sunday evening. I would see Dolly in the hallway from time to time on the way to Studio 2 where I did the weather. I didn't really know who she was and -- not being a C&W fan -- I never introduced myself. For many years, I have kicked myself for not taking advantage of that opportunity.  May she rest in peace for a life well-lived.

Some sad news this evening. Gary England, " The Weather God of Oklahoma City ," has passed away at the age of 85. The report came via his daughter, Molly England.  Gary was known for his extensive severe weather coverage as well as his pioneering use of Doppler radar for tornado detection as well as other innovations.  I was working for KFOR TV (NBC, then WKY-TV) in Oklahoma City when he began his career at KWTV (CBS) in October of 1972. He was a tough competitor who worked hard to provide quality severe weather coverage for his viewers. He finally retired August 28, 2013. His  40+ year career duration in the capital of tornado alley was remarkable .  He appears early in the movie Twister.  The movie producers used KWTV archival footage of his coverage of the tornado in Moore and Oklahoma City on November 19, 1973.  May Gary rest in peace and may his family be comforted in the outstanding, lifesaving, work he did for the people of Oklahoma.  Addition a...

Wall Street Journal Charlie Munger, who began his career as a meteorologist in World War II, has passed away . In fortuitous event, Charlie met Warren Buffet and the two became fast friends and business partners. Their Berkshire-Hathaway became one of the most successful enterprises in history. Unquestionably, he made more money than any other meteorologist in history.  His focus on what was important in meteorology, an innovation during World War II, was a turning point in our science. I strongly suspect that same focus proved invaluable in his investment career.
