Northeast Winter Storm Update, 6pm EST
The purple and pink in New England are for the light to moderate snows forecast tonight and Saturday. The rest of the watches and advisories are due to the Nor'easter that looks increasingly likely for Sunday night into Tuesday.
Note: if you are planning to fly to, or change planes in, Washington, Philly, Newark/NYC, Providence or Boston during this period, you may wish to make alternate plans. For example, if you are planning to change planes on United at Newark, I'd check to see if you can route yourself through Chicago to avoid the storm.
The latest data indicate that heavy snow is likely to fall between Sunday afternoon and Tuesday in the area indicated below.
Probability of Transportation Disruptions
Probably of significant or major travel issues. Odds of heavy snow combined with strong winds are increasing. By the way, you may have been reading about the "models" controversy (here, for example) regarding the potential Nor'easter. Far more goes into my forecasts than models.
But, for what it is worth, I have also reviewed the UKMet model (#2 in the world for average accuracy) and the Canadian (#3) and not just the ECMWF (#1) and the GFS (#4) as well as two of the AI models.
