Assortment of Warnings Across the Nation; Snow Forecast for the Northeast

After the horrible avalanche in California that took so many lives, I've seen (social media) people ask where they can get avalanche warnings. They are available on NWS maps such as the one above. The bright blue counties in Colorado and Utah are avalanche warnings. In addition....
  • Magenta = red flag warning = wildfire foreccast
  • Gold = high wind warning
  • Sand = wind advisory
  • Purple = winter weather advisory
  • Pink (below) = winter storm warning
  • Dark Blue = winter storm watch
  • Green = flood watch
  • Bright green = flood warning

Below the 3-day forecast for snow in the Northeast
Note: snowfall amounts may be higher than shown from New Jersey to Massachusetts. Winds could gust to 45 mph in coastal areas.

And, finally, the 5-day rainfall (snow in higher elevations) forecast in the West.
