We're Starting to Get Good at This

Click to enlarge. NWS combination radar and rain gauge rainfall estimate.
On our way to church this morning, Kathleen asked me how much rain fell (not knowing I hadn't read our rain gauge -- too lazy this morning).

I told her that, based on the estimate (above) for our home, about three quarters of an inch.

Finally went to read the gauge a while ago:  0.72 inch.

When we get dual polarization radar fully integrated into these products, they will be even better. Why is this important? Agriculture, forestry, and water resource management can be done better with accurate spatial rainfall information.
