An Editorial Comment

Image
Says The Atlantic. It has been in business 108 years.  Says the excellent satire site The Babylon Bee  with an editorial comment (upper left) from Instapundit.  Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize and she dedicated it to President Trump for his assistance in their fight for freedom. While I often write about the workings of government, I rarely write about politics (it bores me and takes up too much of our societal discourse). This is an exception. Whether the peace agreement holds or not, President Trump deserves tremendous praise for his peace efforts in the Middle East during both of his terms.  Worst. Hitler. Ever.

9:20am MDT Update on Southwest Flash Flood Forecast

Image
The entire yellow area has a serious flash flood risk with the higher risks in red. This forecast is valid until 8am Saturday. I urge you not to try to cross flooded areas by foot or by car.  Also, if you live in area that has flooded before or is near a watercourse, prepare a "go kit" so you can evacuate at a moment's notice.

No Geo Engineering or Weather Modification in Florida!

Image
The types of rain situations conducive to increases via weather modification are relatively infrequent in Florida (more common in mountainous regions). I believe the primary target of the state's regulation is so-called "geo-engineering" which is attempts to fight global warming on a long-term basis (weather modification intends to achieve immediate results).  We don't know enough about the atmosphere to safely attempt to put gunk into the atmosphere to try to stop global warming. The risk of major unintended consequences is just too great.

2 Days of High Flash Flood Danger in the Southwest (Updated 3:10pm MDT)

Image
The moisture associated with a dying Pacific hurricane is going to help cause flash flooding in the Southwest. You can see the remains of Priscilla off the coast of Baja. It contains extremely high levels of atmospheric moisture to be turned into rain.  Until 6am Friday 6 am Friday to 6am Saturday  The red area is a "moderate" risk on the national flash flood forecasting scale. Keep in mind that this is extremely high for Arizona. Take a look: Update: 3:10pm MDT, flash flood watches in effect in green.  Four Arizonans were killed in recent flash flooding in the state. At least three of the four were killed in their automobiles.  In the strongest possible terms, do not try to cross flooded areas by foot or by car!  Unless you live in a relatively low area or close to a watercourse, it might be a good idea to forego unnecessary travel.

The Proof: Climate Change Did Not Cause the Los Angeles MegaFire

Image
In a tragedy of monumental proportions, it is now confirmed the January Los Angeles Wildfires were caused by a determined, progressive arsonist. He traveled from Florida to California to set the fires. New York Post The inset at the bottom is the image he created showing a city burning down. According to multiple media reports, he donated to President Biden. Jonathan Rinderknecht is 29-years old. He used his phone to video the fire he set.  Of course, at the time, Big Climate and its politicians were telling us that climate change caused the fires.

Our Society's Undervaluing of Weather Science

Image
The University of Nebraska Regents are about to make a huge mistake : the elimination of most of its earth science programs including geology and atmospheric science. This in spite of the fact that atmospheric science degrees are highly valued by employers.  This comes back to the highly unfortunate "weather is/should be 'free'" culture in our nation. Why does this matter? The regents would never consider eliminating the law or MBA programs -- as they are seen as producing "valuable" students. Yet saving lives in hurricanes and tornadoes or saving billions  by averting property damage -- in the view of the majority of the population -- those things "just happen." I've known some excellent meteorologists who graduated from NU. Regents: Please keep the atmospheric science department!
