The Heavy Rain Has Moved North

Heavy rain continues in parts of Louisiana and southeast Texas and has spread north. Rainfall during the last 24 hours exceeded ten inches in Louisiana and four inches from Missouri to southwest Indiana. The band of rain from Missouri to Ohio will increase over the next 24 hours. Below is the forecast for  additional rainfall through 7am Wednesday. If you are in the bright orange area, there is a serious risk of flooding.

The Historic Flooding in Louisiana; Update for Missouri and Illinois

There are places where the radar estimates are approaching 30 inches! There is much more from AccuWeather here . Here is the forecast rainfall from now until Monday evening. As much as 11 inches are forecast with torrential rains over the southern part of the St. Louis Bi-State area. If this is a perfect forecast, the Meramec River will have to be watched carefully. I'll continue to update.

Mississippi Valley Flood Update

With serious flooding, and one fatality, in Louisiana, the weather system causing the heavy rain will begin moving north tonight. Dr. Ryan Maue, click to enlarge Rainfalls over the next four days are expected to reach nearly a foot south of St. Louis. Major flooding will result if the rain develops as forecast.

Flood Outlook Update

Here is the latest on the torrential rains forecasted for the These are the forecast rains from now until noon Wednesday. Yes, that is more than ten inches in southeast Missouri. The NWS has now issued flash flood watches and in the green areas below. More will almost certainly be issued. If you live in a flood-prone area, time to begin preliminary precautions. Note: Just received a report of I-10 being closed in Louisiana and several roads have been washed out in Mississippi.

The Threat of Flooding Increases

You'll recall that we wrote about the flooding risk yesterday. Based on the latest forecasts and computer models, the threat has further increased. Please click to enlarge. The 9+" of rain forecast centered on Missouri is somewhat similar to the forecasts prior to the Christmas flooding of 2015. Thee is a similar threat is Louisiana. Another Scientist Predicts Global Cooling

The story is here . The number of reputable scientists forecasting cooling, while small, continues to grow. Of course, cooling would be catastrophic for mankind because we could not grow enough food to feed the world. To an extent, the greenhouse gases we have in the atmosphere form a sort of insurance against mild cooling. There is a story here that Dr. Zharkova's presentation of her paper did not go over well. As to that, I would like to cite this story from Ed Driscoll .     Jerry Taylor of the Cato Institute tells a story about Julian Simon, the late and great economist.He was at some environmental forum, and he said, “How many people here believe that the earth is increasingly polluted and that our natural resources are being exhausted?” Naturally, every hand shot up.
