Photo from my friend meteorologist Dr. Joe Golden from the Denver suburbs. 19" on the ground. Here is more info from Dr. Golden via Twitter: 100,000 homes and businesses are without power due to the blizzard. Latest AccuWeather Radar. Interstate 70 closed from NW Kansas to west of Denver. With the storm now as far east as the Great Lakes, here is AccuWeather's forecast of the eastern part of the storm: This is a dangerous storm. Please plan accordingly.

Tornado and Wildfire Update

Image
Tornado was just issued for the region I discussed below: As of 3:08pm, storms had not yet developed but they will. Now is the time to begin monitoring the weather because the storms will move quickly from varying directions  in this case. The huge grassfire in the Kansas Gyp Hills is now of epic proportions as the graphic from the NWS in Dodge City shows. Fortunately, the fire missed the town of Sun City. The green is smoke from the fire as detected by radar. Please stay out of the region and allow emergency crews to do their work.

Tornado and Wildfire Updates

There are now two areas where the tornado risk rises to significant (brown) levels. The southern area has been extended south into Texas. A second area has been introduced in the four state region of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Please keep up on the weather in these areas. The wildfire threat has gone off the charts in the southern Plains. A very large wildfire that started in Oklahoma yesterday just jumped US 160 in Kansas. I have the large fire locations circled as of 11:23am. Please take extra caution to insure that wildfires do not start.

Blizzard Update

Blizzard conditions will spread across the region. Please do not try to travel in the heavier snow areas.

Tornado Risk Today

The area with a 5% probability (brown) is the significant threshold. If you live in this area, please keep an eye on the weather later today.
