It is accurate that humanity's emissions have helped boost world temperatures over the past half-century. Droughts may have worsened in some areas. It is said insanity is doing the same thing  over and over and expecting a different result.  The largest wildfire in the history of Texas has been 90+% contained.  To give you some perspective, this fire would extend from New York City to nearly Baltimore! Now, consider: February, 2024. The Smokehouse Fire, largest in Texas' history.   √ August, 2023. Fire on Maui kills more than 100 people and obliterates the historic town of Lahaina. √ December, 2021, more than 1,000 homes burn in Boulder, CO. November, 2018, 86 killed, 17 injured, and $16 billion  in damage in California's "Camp Fire." √ √ = suspected or proven involvement of utility wires.  Prior to 2018, when did you hear about catastrophic wildfires that killed scores of people? Today's Wall Street Journal  has an article about the current chair of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) operates behind the scenes.  As many of you know, the NTSB has been amazingly successful at making aviation and all types of travel safer. I would like the proposed Natural Disaster Review Board to be modeled after the NTSB in most ways. 

A tornado struck the Myrtle Beach area this afternoon with no advance warning. While this was a tougher call than some, a tornado warning should have been issued at least seven minutes earlier than it was.  The Myrtle Beach area receives its storm warnings from the NWS in Wilmington, North Carolina, where the radar is located. With tornadoes possible , and a " mesoscale discussion " indicating tornadoes could occur, the radar should have been set to 80-second tornado SAILS mode. Instead, it was operating 180 seconds mode -- the mis-operation of the radar has occurred over and over again in these poorly warned tornado situations.  At 1:12pm, the radar clearly showed rotation (right panel, circled). However, I probably would not have warned at this point because the rotation was not particularly strong and the general atmospheric conditions for a tornado were relatively weak.
