Weather Bulletin: Multiple Fatal Weather Events Today

3 people died on Lake Geneva, WI when their boat overturned in high winds. Seven were rescued. This occurred even though there were tornado then high wind warnings. From my blog earlier today, note the upper warning specifically mentions Lake Geneva:
When outdoors, these warnings should be taken seriously.

Here's a vital bit of information: If you see clouds like this, known as a "shelf cloud," high winds -- perhaps extreme winds, are likely.

Last month, I took this photo of a shelf cloud. A wind gust of 81 mph was clocked as it went by.
Regardless of whether it is a tornado/severe thunderstorm warning or a shelf cloud, stop what you are doing and head for shore immediately! A time-lapse video, from earlier today, shows a shelf cloud moving overhead. At the very end, you can see the visibility drop as sand is blown from the beach. 

Lightning Danger
And, this tragic news just in....
In addition, three were injured by that lightning bolt. If thunder roars, go indoors! or to your car. While in your car, don't touch the wheel or other objects. 

Below is an image I took in Florida in 2023. Cloud-to-ground and cloud-to-ocean lightning was occurring (unfortunately, I could not catch an image of the bolts). Even though there was loud thunder, there were still plenty of people at the beach. 
Please don't be a victim. Your loved ones and friends need you! Just go inside until the storm passes. 

Summer Heat
Please, please bring water and/or Gatorade along plus umbrella's, caps, sunscreen, and precautions against heat exhaustion or heat stroke while watching Union Pacific's Big Boy. They had a "mass casualty" incident in Berks County, PA in association with the Big Boy. Of course, this advice applies to all outdoor activities during the current heat wave. See the image below.

The title of this essay is from a press release that indirectly "blames the victim." The author is Sedgwick County Emergency Management regarding a fatal tornado that occurred just north of Wichita at 1:14 this morning. The tornado was rated EF-2 ("strong") intensity. Monday's Tornado Risk - Preliminary Outlook

The NWS is forecasting the potential for violent tornadoes over southeast Nebraska and in a band from northeast into south central Kansas.  The possibility exists for tornadoes from Wisconsin to northwest Texas.  The area where the most violent tornadoes are forecast to occur is the area with bold diagonal hatches from southeast Nebraska, into extreme northwest Missouri and into south central Kansas.  The dashed hatching is where strong tornadoes are forecast to occur. In the red area, there is a high  risk of tornadoes In the yellow area, there is an enhanced risk of tornadoes. In the brown area, there is a significant risk of tornadoes.  If I lived in the highest risk area, I would prepare by making sure my car can be put in the garage and I would bring in lawn furniture.
