Late Afternoon Storm Overview

Early this morning, I forecast that the best chance of tornadoes would be after 4pm and -- perhaps -- last
into the overnight hours.
That seems to be the case as the first tornado warning of the day was issued about 4:40pm (see posting immediately below).

We now have tornado watches (red) and severe thunderstorm watches (blue) over a wide area of the central U.S.

Below is the tornado outlook from now until 7am.
The hatched area has the highest risk of a violent tornado. However, 5% is the significant threshold so if you live in the 5% or higher area please keep an eye on the weather into the nighttime hours.
