The Post  and other publications are having difficulties reconciling the reports of a waterspout and its role in sinking the Bayesian .  That's because there are two types of waterspouts... One occurs during the day, without a thunderstorm. They form over water and dissipate quickly when over land. That is the more typical waterspout.  The second, more dangerous, type is simply a tornado that moves over or happens to form over land. Generally, these are significantly stronger than the typical waterspout.  Coincidently, on June 17 I posted a video that shows a tornado forming on the shore and attacking boats when it quickly moved over water .  This tragedy should reinforce that thunderstorms and boating do not mix. Besides waterspouts, lightning, squall lines , and downbursts are all major hazards.
