In addition to the blizzard from the northern Great Plains to the Great Lakes, there is an enhanced risk of strong tornadoes in the area in yellow in the South.  Scroll down for Monday's outlook.  It is time to ensure you are prepared for power outages and for sheltering in case a tornado warning is issued.  Not only is there the inherent risk presented by tornadoes, in this case the risk will be enhanced because of their fast movement along the ground; meaning you may have less time than usual to take cover if a tornado warning is issued for your area.  The yellow area is within a larger area of significant tornado risk (brown). The wildfire risk Friday -- especially in the afternoon -- is high in the entire shaded area. But it is extraordinary high in the purple area.  It is absolutely essential that wildfires be prevented from starting. Recommendations: Don't drag chains.  Don't throw out cigarette butts.  Avoid operating equipment that can spread sparks.  No campfires! Keep vehicles off dry grass. Stay on the road.  Please take this threat seriously. 

This is an "extremely critical" wildfire situation.  Winds up to 100 mph are forecast to occur!! Please stay weather aware tomorrow!!

NWS forecast fire danger for Thursday is in the "elevated" rather than critical or extremely critical. Please don't let your guard down, however.

The purple area is the highest level of wildfire danger and it has been issued for today. Wildfire Safety Suggestions: Don't smoke in this area except inside your home. In a vehicle, you might (out of habit) toss the butt and that could set a horrific fire.  Don't drag chains. No outdoor work (welding, etc.) involving flame.  Of course, no outdoor fires of any kind.  Addition:   During the giant Smokehouse Fire, Wireless Emergency Alerts were sent in much the way as they are for tornadoes. The huge wildfire in the Texas Panhandle continues this morning. It is moving in the general direction of the town of Canadian. Huge area of high wildfire danger and high winds today. Orange is an elevated risk of wildfires, red is a critical risk.
