Upgraded Middle Atlantic Tornado Risk

The tornado risk in the Middle Atlantic states has been upgraded to 15% This includes Harrisburg, Baltimore, Washington, and Richmond. This is a substantial number!

The damaging thunderstorm wind 30% probability area has been enlarged and now includes Pittsburgh.

I urge people in the affected areas to keep up on the weather as these storms develop and approach.

As of 12:40 EDT, AccuWeather regional radar shows a strong line of thunderstorms that will continue to intensify and produce the damaging winds.  The tornado-bearing thunderstorms have not yet formed but will generally occur ahead of the line of thunderstorms. This means some areas may have two rounds of severe thunderstorms.

Airline travel will be disrupted this afternoon and evening throughout the region.

I will not be live-blogging these storms. There will be updates from AccuWeather here and
@breakingweather on Twitter.
