5:33pm Update

As expected, thunderstorms are now breaking out in southern Kansas. Because of smoke from range burning and other non-meteorological echoes, I have placed arrows at the genuine storms.

In southeast Kansas, the storms will strengthen very rapidly the next hour and warnings may be issued by 6:30 or so.

I am not surprised the initial storms in south central Kansas have not developed rapidly. I suspect it is going to be at least another hour before we see major severe storms in this area

Also seeing some very weak echoes west of Tulsa. I doubt those will develop quickly.
