Tornado Watch to Be Issued: Iowa, Illinois, Missouri

As forecasted, the MO-IL-IA area is expected to see severe thunderstorms (including "strong" tornadoes) first. A tornado watch will be issued later this afternoon that will last into tonight.

In the meantime, a cluster of storms with giant hail and wind gusts to 90 mph moved from northeast Iowa to Chicago this morning and early afternoon. You san still see the bright white cloud tops over Chicagoland (above).

Below is a plot of the hail swaths as of 2pm .. keep in mind, however that the scale is in millimeters.

Here is a wider view as of 4pm... including the hail from the supercell in Missouri.
