Some Relief for Kansas and Nebraska

Here is the satellite image from 7:15pm and the corresponding temperatures. Just off the map to the south, the temperature in northeast Wichita was 100°F.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect from northern Nebraska to the Canadian border with Minnesota due to a high probability of damaging winds and the potential for large hail.

Farther south at 8:16pm there are thunderstorms in the High Plains with a couple of severe thunderstorm warnings (yellow polygons). They are also bringing badly needed rains.

Although we covered it earlier today, just a reminder there is a good chance of severe thunderstorms over a large part of the Midwest Saturday and Saturday night.

While Oklahoma will get little relief with "critical" fire danger Saturday, Kansas and Nebraska will get at least a little cooler air and Kansas will see an improved chance of thunderstorms.
