Funnel Cloud Visible from The Smith House

Above the building the cloud formation on the right is a funnel cloud. However, I was very certain it would not touch down because it was being undercut by cool air coming out of the storm. In fact, when I took the picture, winds were gusting to about 45 mph.  You can see the wind motion on the lawn.

Hailstones 2.5" were reported in Derby, Kansas when this photo was taken.

  1. ohhh that cloud reminds me to my visit to Argentina. I'll never forget that day de view from the window of the Buenos Aires apartment... it was a BLACK cloud, I've never seen such a thing! so scary!!
