Viva il Papa!

Catholics are celebrating the election of Pope Francis today.

Already, some commentators are getting it wrong saying, "there has never been a Pope from outside Europe." The first Pope, Peter, was not from Europe. I don't know enough about the very early history of the Church to comment on the others from the first century.

We are hopeful that Pope Francis will be an instrument of faith, hope and love to a world in need of all three.
