This Evening's Picturesque Kansas Tornadoes

We had tornadoes in Kansas, but they were about 30 miles north of where I forecast them to be. They were in the tornado watch. There were no injuries but some damage.

The still photos below were via Twitter:

The Doppler wind data indicated an extremely intense tornado (as we had forecast) but it was in open country when it reached its peak intensity.
We were too far south when the tornadoes developed. We saw one shear funnel cloud that lasted about 15 seconds west of Medicine Lodge.

Spectacular satellite imagery of these storms, time-lapsed, here.

I'll have an update on tomorrow's severe weather outlook in the morning.
