A Salute to Meteorologists

While schools were calling off classes and businesses letting people off early or calling off work altogether, meteorologists were going to work as normal.

At WeatherData, all of our meteorologists reported to work in spite of the blizzard swirling outside. I checked with Dick Elder, the meteorologist-in-charge of the Wichita National Weather Service, and all of his team reported for work, too. I'm sure that was the case at every other weather office in the affected area.

The U.S. Postal Service may say,
"Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these courageous couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" 
we had no mail delivery at my house yesterday.

But meteorologists braved the storm and went about their lifesaving business.

ADDITION 8:30pm Wednesday: A friend emailed this with regard to the Tulsa (which experienced its worst snow storm ever) Weather Forecast Office (WFO), 

WFO Tulsa [got] through the event with 12-18 inches 

of snow plus 3-5 foot drifts in Tulsa..

Some mets stayed at the office 

for 30 hours covering shifts.

Now, that's dedication!
