I was in Colorado hiking recently. We got stuck in a thunderstorm on the return. Lots of lightning and thunder, but as far as I could tell it was hitting along the ridge. We were in the valley, some 2000 feet below. The closest lightning strike was by time six or seven seconds away, over a mile. I was never too worried. Should I have been?
