Florida: 9pm Update Regarding Tornado Risk

Update at 9pm.
NWS Storm Prediction Center is considering issuing a tornado watch for much of the Florida Peninsula.
The area which may be put under the watch is outlined in red. The purple area (off the coast) should strengthen the showers now over land to strong and perhaps severe with tornado potential. Make sure your weather radio is turned on and/or your app that is designed to warn you is near your bed and activated if you retire for the night.

Update at 3:50pm. The basic forecast is unchanged but I think the slightly better chance of tornadoes is long and southeast of a line from Naples to Melbourne. This includes Boca, West Palm, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. The chances will also improve after 6pm.

The brown area has a significant risk of tornadoes, starting in the Keys late this morning and spreading over the Peninsula this afternoon and tonight. This updated forecast includes Jacksonville and St. Augustine as well as Orlando and Daytona.

It will be important to monitor the weather today. If you have a weather radio turn it on and place it into "alarm" mode. Turn the television on to a station with a meteorologist you trust.

It also worth noting, there will be gusty winds throughout Florida today and some higher than usual tides, especially along the southwest coast.

I will update again this afternoon. You may also follow me on Twitter @usweatherexpert.
