Yes, A Democratic Judge Kept Alive Another "Disaster" Slush Fund Yesterday

Image
When you hear Republicans vote against "disaster aid" it is usually this type of nonsense and graft they are voting against.  The BRIC program, supposedly, is designed to harden infrastructure against disasters.  President Trump wanted to shut down the FEMA BRIC program which has benefited almost wholly Democrat areas and primarily those connected to Democrat interests. The judge appointed by Bill Clinton yesterday ruled that Trump could not shut down the program (surprise!).  So, I asked the Grok AI program to list the most recent large BRIC grants. Here is the list.  Note that 100% of them went to blue states or blue interest groups. This was part of the Biden Administration's orgy of spending just before he left office.  When you go to look up the information about that  spending this is what you now find.  According to Grok several of these projects were merely to bring buildings up to code. Others are storm water improvements. Exactly why should t...

Forecast of Weekend Snow

Image
NWS watches and warnings: Pink: winter storm warning Gold: high wind warning Violet (South Dakota): ice storm warning  Magenta: wildfire warning  Green: winter storm watch Purple: winter weather advisory Deep blue: extreme cold warning Pale blue: extreme cold watch Here is a forecast for the weekend stripe of snow from the Northern Rockies to the Midwest I believe the south side of this forecast could still be as much as 20-25 miles too far north so it is possible Omaha, St. Louis and Carbondale may receive a little more than what the graphic shows.   Below is the forecast radar for 7am Saturday. Finally, the coldest forecast wind chill.

Preliminary Snow Forecast: Friday thru Sunday

Image
This is a highly preliminary forecast for Friday through Sunday regarding a strip of snow forecast to fall from Montana to the Ohio River. In Illinois and immediately surrounding areas winds may gust to 35 to, perhaps, 40 mph which will cause drifting snow. In addition, I think the southern edge of the forecast snow area is likely too far north about 20-40 miles which means Omaha-St. Louis-Evansville and nearby towns may receive accumulating snow.

Catastrophic Flooding in the State of Washington; Update 7:10pm PST

Image
7:10pm. The Governor of Washington has declared a state of emergency.  Dr. Cliff Mass is an expert on the subject and has been writing timely updates. Let me refer you to his blog .  -- 2:30pm PST -- The NWS has upgraded its national flood forecast for the next seven days. Color code: Pink = catastrophic flooding. In much of this area, the rivers will break the previous record stages. At least two rivers will break the records by five feet! Dark blue = considerable (by geography) flooding.  Light blue = limited flooding.  If you live in thee areas, I urge you to keep up on the latest information and, if you live in the pink or dark blue areas, be prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice.

The Collapse of College Football

Image
The model upon which college football is based is collapsing,  I have no problem with Kansas State and Iowa State as neither team has a coach now nor will have at the time of the bowl. The others simply do not want to play. In Notre Dame's case, they want to pick up their marbles and go home because they are angry about the post-season seedings.  Regardless of this reason, this would have been unthinkable even a decade ago.  Things need to be cleaned up:  It is my opinion that we do not need 51 bowl games.  ESPN has way too many conflicts of interest regarding post season college football.  The SECESPN has too much influence over the process. These need to be cleaned up or it will soon be the (unfair) post season tournament and nothing else.

Kansas State Football Coach Colin Klein Arrives in Manhattan

Image
A very classy move by Texas A&M: After a flyover above Bill Snyder Family Stadium on the K-State campus, Klein Force One lands at the Manhattan Airport.  You can watch the video of Coach Klein's arrival here . A snapshot -- with the band playing Wabash Cannonball , of course -- is below. Colin is in the dark suit at the bottom of the air stairs.  If you are not aware, Colin had a stellar career as a KSU quarterback and offensive coordinator before he went to Texas A&M where he brought them into the college football championship. He is a native of Manhattan and we are thrilled to have him home.  His statement:

Hey, Hey, Hey! Please Consider Giving My Book as a Christmas Gift

Image
Krusty is Korrect, as always! You can find my book here . A book is a great Christmas gift.  It is the 17th best selling book about weather of all time. It is an uplifting story -- gripping at time -- of how courageous meteorologists fought the bureaucracy and other obstacles to create today's storm warning system that saves so many lives.

Why Did This Chaos Have to Occur?!

Image
Above is a video of the chaos on the roads during the major winter storm Thanksgiving weekend. My question is, WHY?! The forecasts -- for more than a foot of snow with near blizzard conditions in places -- were out for two days before the storm. It was recommended to leave early and beat the storm or delay and wait until the storm was over (my nephew left a day early -- Friday -- and had no problems). Obviously, many did not. Why?!  ~ 4" of snow fell in the Kansas City area today and the roads were absolutely terrible, even though the forecast was excellent. The road departments obviously did not believe the forecasts . Why?! Fox4 Kansas City. Compare to forecast at the purple link. Returning to the weekend snow, below is a reproduction of the forecast on this blog posted ~ 4:30pm Thanksgiving afternoon. Plenty of time to make a change in plans before the storm. The information is specific and actionable. If anyone wishes to opine as to why so many ignored the forecasts, please ...
