Damage From Today's Storms

The Kansas City region was the hardest hit. The suburb of Shawnee recorded a wind gust of 89 mph and, with KC heavily treed, power is out in much of the region.

This is the inside of a home on which fell a tree.

While not nearly as severe, there was damage in Wichita and even more extensive damage in southeast Kansas.

As of 7:20pm, these are the numbers of customers without power in Kansas and Missouri -- numbers still climbing in the latter state. Multiply by about 3 to get the number of people affected, which means about 600,000 are without electricity.

Radar at 7:34pm shows a severe thunderstorm with 70 mph gusts in the St. Louis area along with the line of thunderstorms from the Ozarks to near Tulsa and northern Oklahoma.
