Summary of Current Drought Conditions

Here is the latest Palmer Drought Index with data as of October 2nd. Blues and greens represent wetter than average conditions with yellows, orange and reds indicating dry conditions. With he exception of parts of Washington and Oregon, where the drought may be overstated, the West is generally in good shape as far as moisture conditions are concerned.

Over the next seven days, much of the contiguous USA will experience rain, with some areas experiencing heavy rains.
Please note the band of moderate to heavy rain across the central and northern Plains. This is the result of a storm expected to move across the area Thursday thru Friday. However, the models sometimes have a northward bias in these situations. So, the center of the band may be 100 to 150 miles farther to the south.
