California Drought: Getting Better All the Time

This is great news. The drought is officially over in three of California's seven climatological districts! And, with the exception of extreme northeast California and the Donner Pass region, the amount of rain needed to end the drought is a very manageable 3 to 9 inches beyond the normal amount.

How much rain is now forecast? Over the next seven days, the National Weather Service is forecasting enough rain that Northern California will at least hold its own (i.e., drought conditions will not worsen).
The weather pattern around January 1 will be a bit less favorable for rain in California with little or nothing falling in the South. There are preliminary indications the pattern may become more favorable again the 3rd or 4th.
