Update on Tropics and Heavy Rain

Finally, a hurricane. Humberto off the African coast has reached hurricane strength. It is moving north. We apparently tied the record for latest in the season for a hurricane to form.
Of more interest is the area of clouds near the Yucatan (arrow). If, after it crosses land, it is able to move into the southern Gulf of Mexico, it has a good chance of becoming a tropical depression and strengthening from there. We'll keep an eye on that because it also could bring needed rain to south Texas.

Speaking of rain, here is the latest seven day rainfall amount forecast:

At 7:23am CDT, AccuWeather Regional Radar showed heavy rain continuing to fall in New Mexico with scattered heavy rains elsewhere in the Four Corners area.
