Continuing Drought Pattern in the Winter Wheat Belt

The Palmer Drought Index as of January 31, the latest available, shows worsening drought conditions over the central and southern Great Plains -- where much of the nation's winter wheat is grown. The recent moisture from snow, while helpful, isn't enough to lessen the dry conditions.

Unfortunately, virtually no rain is expected in the area the next seven days.

After ten days, there is a chance of another storm as reflected in the 8-14. Always remember that these are rough approximations of the possible weather next week.

Still, the overall pattern is for the dryness. I don't see the drought improving much in the next month.
