A "Mackerel Sky"

Cirrocumulus clouds are often called by meteorologists a "mackerel sky." You can see why in this photo that I took yesterday evening.

  1. Lovely! But I wonder how many people today have ever seen a live mackerel to compare that sky to? That metaphor is a sad reminder that we're much less in touch with the natural world than our ancestors were.
