Biggest Money ≠ New York or L.A.

I just received my copy of Forbes with its listing of the 400 richest people in the world and something popped out at me that I thought I would share.

The conventional wisdom is that one has to be in NYC or LA or London or Hong Kong in order to make big money. That would seem to be challenged by the 400.  I'm listing the city of residence of the top 10 below (#1 = richest).

1. Medina, Wash.
2. Omaha, Neb.
3. Woodside, Calif.
4. Jackson, Wyo.
5. Wichita, Kans.
6. NYC
7. Bentonville, Ark.
8. Ft. Worth, Tex.
9. Bentonville, Ark.
10. NYC

We live in an amazing era with email, instant transcontinental transmission of high-quality color documents, free long distance telephone, jet air travel. It used to be that one had to be in one of the very largest cities in order to do business. That just isn't true any more. While I love visiting NY, LA, and other large cities, I'm thrilled to live in Wichita with a great quality of life at very reasonable cost.

First Tornado Watch of the Day Issued

Unfortunately, the forecast is working out. A tornado watch is already in effect in Oklahoma and Texas.  This watch is in effect until 1pm.  Thunderstorms are developing in the southeast Texas Panhandle. They will move northeast and strengthen. Please keep a close eye on the weather in these areas.  I'll have comprehensive forecast up in 60-90 minutes.

Hilary's Forecast Path Shifts West; Updated 9:20am PDT

The forecast path of the center of Hilary has shifted a bit to the west. This increases the threat to the Southland, especially in terms of flooding.  Rainfall Note the heavy rains are forecast for Los Angeles County. Serious flash flooding may result. Because the forecast path has shifted to the west, that increases the threat of serious flooding in Los Angeles County north into Yosemite and the southern Sierra. It lessens the threat in Utah and western Arizona. While the threat of widespread flooding in Utah and Arizona lessens, note that some thunderstorms with localized heavy rain show up on the map.  In Nevada, the more western path increases the risk of serious flooding around Mt Charleston and into the central part of the state.  Here is the updated  (9am PDT) flash flood risk map.
