A Clarification

Recently, there was a thread on TMZ regarding the tragic death of stormchaser Matt Hughes, who had appeared on Discovery’s Storm Chasers.

In the thread, a number of people contended that storm chasers and spotters do not save lives. I posted on the thread that storm chasers and spotters unquestionably save lives and mentioned my book for those interested in more documentation. The book contains numerous instances of how the meteorological community, of which Matt was a part, saves lives.

Some people believe that comment was insenstive and merely a promotion for the book. I apologize. Until a friend clued me in, that point of view never occurred to me because I was attempting to recognize the sometimes heroic efforts of those who go out into the storm to help keep us all safe.

I want to take a moment to recognize Matt's many contributions to the storm chasing community and offer my prayers and deepest sympathy to his family.
