No Nation Would Jail Its Citizens For Talking About the Weather, Right?

The UAE is cracking down on people who talk about floods and storms! How primitive and stupid, right?

Of course, the United States has the First Amendment and putting people in jail for talking about the weather could never happen here. No, wait!
Attorney General Loretta Lynch acknowledged Wednesday that there have been discussions within the Department of Justice about possibly pursuing civil action against so-called climate change deniers.

“This matter has been discussed. We have received information about it and have referred it to the FBI to consider whether or not it meets the criteria for which we could take action on,” Lynch said at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Justice Department operations.

Unfortunately, the above is not from The Onion. The Obama Administration obviously does not care about the First Amendment and, horrifyingly, it appears that neither Trump nor Clinton do, either. 

Exit question: Where are the nation's editorial writers? Where is the ACLU?

    The first amendment is to the United States constitution not to the UAE. While I agree that what they are doing is horrible I don't understand what we as a country are expected to do in this case.

    Definitely one more reason not to visit though.

    With respect to only the U.S.: I wonder if 'knowingly spreading falsehoods' with an aim to control public opinion, so as to maintain corporate activities that are destroying our environment isn't quite a bit beyond first amendment rights. Further, a collusion of interests being involved might raise the issue to a racketeering level where RICO laws would kick in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racketeer_Influenced_and_Corrupt_Organizations_Act I'm guessing that these aspects are the meat of the discussions taking place.

The forecast path of the center of Hilary has shifted a bit to the west. Dangerous Travel Conditions - People Reportedly Stranded

Scroll up. --- Updated Information as of 8am PDT You are risking your life if you attempt to travel through the purple area.  While the rain has not begun in coastal California, I would urge you to use this time to make any preparations. Power outages have occurred already in southeast California. Here is the latest radar as of 7:55am PDT. As of 6:40am PDT , the radar indicates moderate to heavy rain falling over desert areas of Southern California and far western Arizona (click to enlarge).  Rainfall amounts for the 24 hours ending at 7am PDT show more than two inches have already fallen. Update on Tornado and Wind Potential; 12 Noon PDT

There was at least one tornado and at least one funnel cloud yesterday.  --- original forecast --- Hilary (the swirly symbol) continues to move NNW paralleling the coast of Baja California, Mexico. The area outlined in red has a significant risk of tornadoe s the rest of the afternoon.  Below is a list of peak wind gusts so far.  Peak winds may increase farther north as the afternoon progresses.  Addition at 12 noon PDT: Sure enough, winds have increased.  Note: If you are in the San Diego area, I recommend not  traveling east on I-8. Heavy rains may cause flash flooding that will involve the highway.
