Welcome to Wichita Garth Brooks Fans!

We are taking a break from weather because Garth Brooks and Tricia Yearwood are performing six concerts over the next four days in Wichita. Sixty-five thousand fans will be attending from all over the nation.

The Wichita Eagle has a great guide here. For fans of Ms. Yearwood, note that she is doing a book signing at the east side Williams Sonoma. Details are in the article.

For those flying in, you'll find our brand new Eisenhower National Airport to be the most convenient you've ever used. When you land, you watch for the signs that say baggage claim and they guide you right down the escalator to the baggage claim. Rental cars are across the street.

Here is the AccuWeather Forecast:

When it is time to depart, the ticket counters are on the near (north) side as you drive up. Go up the escalator, and you will arrive at the only airport security area designed to be a security area. You'll breeze right through. If you are there an hour before your flight, you'll be fine.

What To Do When You are Not Attending the Concert:

  • Lunch: Tanya's Soup Kitchen, downtown. Gourmet soups. A one-of-a-kind restaurant not to be missed. Close to the concert venue, Intrust Bank Arena.
  • Dinner: Kansas is the #1 beef producing state. Scotch & Sirloin is a Wichita institution with great steaks five minutes from the arena.
  • Dinner: Seafood: Newport Grill
  • Dinner: Steak and seafood: Chester's
If you are staying at the Ambassador or Hyatt Regency, their in-house restaurants are excellent. If you read flyertalk.com, some say the restaurant at the Wichita Hyatt is the best in the entire chain.

Our zoo is absolutely outstanding but may be a little cool to be outside (it is open). lf you have time, I highly, highly recommend the Kansas Cosmophere -- generally believed to be the second best space museum in the world. It is 55 min. from downtown Wichita and -- I promise -- you will not be disappointed. From space to a hundreds of feet underground is Stratica which is the underground salt mines where everything from the originals of vital government documents to the original videotapes of Friends to The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson are stored. It is a fascinating place to visit.

Back in Wichita, the Wichita Art Museum is great for adults and the Wichita - Sedgwick Co. Museum is a great place to take kids. And, last but certainly not least, is Exploration Place the Children's Science Center

While I am a huge fan of the Kansas Flint Hills as a great area for visitors, I do not recommend them in the winter.

Enjoy the concerts and enjoy your visit to Wichita!

Addition at 6:52pm: People taking their seats.
Have a great time!!

Second addition, Saturday morning. More about Wichita
